Donald Edmundson Dies in Mason City

Hayfield - Donald Elwin Edmundson, 20, formerly of this community, died in a Mason City hospital last Saturday afternoon after a two weeks illness.

Funeral services were held at Bethlehem Lutheran church, Mason City, Tuesday. The Rev. C. A. Hinz, pastor of the church, was in charge. Mrs. William Calkins sang the hymns,"Nearer My God to Thee" and "What a Friend We have in Jesus" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. C. A. Hinz.

Pallbearers were George Gelner, Norman Ruehlow, Edward Harboson, Everett Barkhurst, Robert Wolfe and Clarence Schellsmidt. The body was laid to rest in Concord cemetery, Garner.

Prior to his death, Mr. Edmundson had submitted to a major operation. He was recovering until complications developed.

He was born at Clear Lake April 8, 1929, the son of the late M. M. Edmundson and of Mrs. Martin Boehnke, now of Mason City. Shortly afterward the family moved to Hayfield, where they lived until 1940. They later moved to Mason City.

The deceased attended school at Hayfield and Mason City. He was confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran church, Mason City, in April of 1947.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May, 1947, and served 18 months with Guard Co. G.H.Q. in Japan. He was discharged early this year and had been clerking in a store since that time.

Preceding him in death were his father, one sister and one brother. He is survived by his mother, three sisters - Mrs. Owen Taylor of Hayfield, Mrs. Max Howick of Ft. Dodge and Mrs. Edward Jackson of Mason City; and five brothers - Beldon, Merle, Jimmie, Bobby and Darlye - all of Mason City.

Donald E. Edmundson Rites Held at Bethlehem Church

Funeral services for Donald Elwin Edmundson, son of Mrs. Martin Boehnke, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethlehem Lutheran church in Mason City, with the Rev. C. A. Hinz officiating.

Mr. Edmundson, who was born April 8, 1929, at Clear Lake, died in a local hospital Saturday, following a short illness.

He attended school at Hayfield, Clear Lake and Mason City, and was confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran church of Mason City in April, 1947.

In May, 1947, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served 18 months with Guard Co. G. H. D. in Japan.

Surviving are his mother, stepfather, Martin Boehnke, 5 brothers, Beldon, Merle, James, Bob and Daryl, all of Mason City, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Owen Taylor, Hayfield, Mrs. Max Howick, Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Edward Jackson, Mason City. He was preceded in death by his father, Matt M. Edmundson, and one sister and one brother.

Mrs. Williams Calkins sang "Nearer My God To Thee," and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

Pallbearers were George Gilner, Norman Ruehlow, Edward Harbasen, Everett Schellsmidt, Bob Wolfe and Bud Schellsmidt. Burial was at the Garner cemetery, with the Bohn funeral home in charge.
