An Old Settler Gone

David Kirk, an old time settler of Winnebago County died at his home in Linden township Saturday June 14, aged 74 years and 11 months.

David Kirk was born in Virginia in 1828 and came to Hancock county about the year 1868 and settled on a farm about one mile south of Forest City. About 15 years ago he moved to Linden township where he has since resided.

He leaves a wife and a family of grown up children to mourn the departure of a kind husband and father. The funeral sermon was conducted by Rev. J. D. Mason at Crystal Lake and the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful little cemetery at that place. Mr. Kirk was an old soldier and a member of the Hayden Post of Forest City. Eight of his old comrades acted as pall bearers.
