BENJAMIN KING

Benjamin King was born in Carroll county Kentucky, November 27, 1838 and died at his home in Madison township, Hancock county, Iowa on November 20, 1922. He lacked just 7 days of being 84 years old at the time of his death,

He came with his parents to Indiana and then on to Illinois where they lived for a few years before they moved to Fayette county, Iowa, before the war. When the Civil war came on he enlisted at Patch Prairie, Fayette county, Iowa, August 15, 1862 and was mustered into the service of his country in Company H, 38th Iowa Infantry Volunteers. He was present at the siege of Vicksburg. Later he saw service in New Orleans and then he was taken sick, was in the hospital for some months and was discharged at New Orleans some time in October, 1863.

He was married on February 1, 1864, to Miss Virginia Plumb, who with four children, Mary C., Catherine E., Etta J. and Francis Plumb, mourn his loss today. Other relatives who survive him are his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mrs. Nellie May Cunningham and William E. and Clara E. Cunningham, two brothers Nathaniel King of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Frank M. King of Boone, Iowa.

As a young man he was baptized and joined the Baptist church in Fayette county. The family have lived in this county for 54 years this last September.

Rev J. D. Wolcott conducted the funeral service at the home on Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in Madison cemetery.
