HUSSONG, Calvin (1821-1904)

Calvin Hussong was born at Knoxville, Tenn., December 28, 1823, and died at the Soldier's Home, May 1, 1904, aged 81 years, 4 months and 4 days, after an extended illness of Bright's disease. Mr. Hussong enlisted in Co. A, 23rd Infantry from Ames, Iowa, on August 10, 1862 and served till the close of the war, being discharged at New Orleans, April 18, 1864. He saw hard service and participated in a number of historical battles.

The funeral services were held from the home of S. T. Hussong on Thursday, May 5th, 1904, Rev. W. C. Stewart officiating. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and the remains were taken charge of by the old soldiers of Corwith and interred by the side of his wife in the Corwith cemetery.

Thus has another of the old boys answered his final roll call and ere long the last of this noble army of veterans will have answered to his commander above.
