Warren A. Rasmus 1927-2003

Warren A. Rasmus, 76, of Garner died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15 at the United Methodist Church in Garner. The Rev. David Wagner officiated. Music was provided by organist, Beverly Cataldo who accompanied soloist, Wayne Lawhorn and congregational hymns. Ushers were Marvin and Maynard Schoneman.

Honorary bearers were the North Garner Community Club. Casket bearers were Jennifer Rasmus, Melanie Steffens, Chris Nixt, Jeremy Rasmus, Andy Nixt, Andrew Rasmus, Brooke Franzen, Amy Franzen, Dustin Rasmus and Michelle King. Burial was in the Concord Township Cemetery, Garner, with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Warren Allen Rasmus, the son of Irwin Victor and Thyra (Hansen) Rasmus, was born June 14, 1927, at Mason City. He attended Concord Township #3 country school and graduated from the Garner High School in 1945. He continued his education at Waldorf College in Forest City. Warren served his country in the U.S. Navy from February 1946 to December of 1947 as a Yeoman 3rd class.

On June 23, 1951, he married Helen Ann Whipple at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. They took over the family farm north of Garner, where they raised their family and had a dairy and grain operation. The farm became a century farm in 1981. In 1993 they moved into Garner. Warren enjoyed his family, grandchildren, friends, dancing and playing clarinet in high school, in the Navy and with the Old Timers Band.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a life time member of the Garner American Legion and VFW. He belonged to the Saddle Club, the North Garner Community Club, served on the Garner Creamery Board and was a charter member of the Garner Jaycees.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Garner; three children, Denny Rasmus and wife, Darlene of Algona, Ron Rasmus and wife, Kathi of Garner and Ellen Franzen and husband, Dean of New Hampton; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Dustin, Melanie, Andrew and Michelle; four step-grandchildren, Brooke and Amy Franzen and Chris and Andy Nixt; a great-grandchild, Alexandra Steffens.

Also surviving are a twin brother, Wayne E. Rasmus of Garner; a sister-in-law, Arlene Rasmus of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Irwin Dean Rasmus; and a sister-inlaw, Laurine Rasmus.
