Mary T. Rockwood 1909-2003

Mary T. Rockwood, of Garner died Saturday, July 12. 2003, at the Concord Care Center, Garner. She was 94.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 16 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with the Rev. Jerry Blake officiating. Lector will be Pat Doble. Music will be provided by organist, Carolyn Kumsher who will accompany the church choir. Ushers will be Robert Kral and Lawrence Engstler.

Casket bearers will be Daniel Rockwood, Curtis Rockwood, Larry Schisel, Denny Haefner, Bill Engstler and Dann T. May. Honorary bearers will be Travis Rockwood, Kaye Holding, Bill Doble, John Fitch, Joe Schisel and Tom Huinker. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Britt.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 7 p.m. A Scriptural wake service will follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Mary Teresa Rockwood, the daughter of Frank and Teresa (Doughan) Mullin, was born April 22, 1909, at Hutchins. She graduated from the Britt High School in 1925 and Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls in 1927. She continued her education in teaching at Froebels Primary Education College in Chicago, Wartburg College, Iowa State University, University of Iowa and State College of Iowa.

In 1939, she was married to Harvey Rockwood in Britt. Mary taught school in Iowa for 40 years in the following communities, Hutchins, Pocahontas, Clear Lake, Garner and Waterloo. She retired from teaching in 1975 and moved to Whittemore. In 1990, she moved to the Prairie View Apartments in Garner.

She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Richard Rockwood of Meridian, Idaho; ten grandchildren, Daniel Rockwood and his wife, Sharon and their two children, Cassie and Tiffany, of Menomonie, Wisconsin, Catherine Hilbert and her husband, Guy and their children, Callie and Dana, of Barron, Wisconsin, Christine Silva and her husband, Henry and their three children, Mariah, Polo and Christopher, of Deltona, Florida, Curtis Rockwood and his wife, Marie and their four children,

Samantha, Megan, Owen and Erin, of Boise, Idaho, Jennifer Schofield and her husband, Edward and their children, Taylor and Jacob, of Chetek, Wisconsin, Travis Rockwood of Boise, Melodee Hoffner and her husband, Todd and their daughter, Kiaya, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Elizabeth Rockwood and her son, Devon of Orlando, Florida, Sarah Rockwood of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Melinda Rockwood of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Coletta Mullin of Whittemore; two nieces, Linda Schisel and her husband, Larry of Garner and Judy Haefner and her husband, Denny of Cedar Rapids; and several other nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey in 1984; her son, Robert Rockwood in November of 1998; her parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
