1909 - 1990Services for Kenneth L. Zwald, 80, of Garner, who died, Saturday, March 17, 1990 at North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City were held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 20 at the United Methodist Church in Garner with the Rev. Robert T. Ellis as officiant.
Mrs. Richard Johnson, organist, accompanied soloist Bill Renner. Ushers were Vern Butz and Marvin Schoneman.
Casket bearers were Jerry Zwald, Russell May, Eldon Gast, Douglas Fredin, Don Hormel and Jerry Carlson.
Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.
Kenneth Louis Zwald, the son of Richard and Edna (Abele) Zwald was born December 5, 1909 on a farm northwest of Garner. He attended the rural school of Garfield Township and then graduated from Garner High School in 1926. He farmed in the Garner area all of his life.
May 20, 1936 he married Mildred Gast at her parents farm home, west of Klemme. They farmed in the Garner-Klemme area. Mildred died, June 13, 1970.
June 29, 1977, Kenneth married Myrtle Irving Casperson at the Methodist parsonage in Garner. Kenny never retired, his life was dedicated to farming.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner and was a former member of the Liberty Methodist Church in Klemme. He had also served on the school board at Klemme.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Zwald of Garner; his daughter, Mrs. Winola Neal and her husband, Roger, of Rapid City S.D.; his son Eugene Zwald and his wife, Susan of Hammond, WI; four grandchildren, Kevin Simmons, Tom Simmons, Brian Zwald and Charles Zwald; and two sisters, Mrs. Elma May and her husband, Delbert of New Hampton and Mrs. Julia Hormel of Ocheyedan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents and two brothers, Merwin Zwald and Lloyd W. Zwald.
