1912 - 1995Services for Clarence "Syke" Lenz, 82, of Garner, who died Wednesday, May 3, 1995 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center West in Mason City, were held 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner with Rev. Robert E. Grossman as officiant,
Mrs. Bryon Greiman, organist, accompanied Bill Renner and Tom Renner, who sang as a duet. Ushers were Bob Jacobsen, Merle Klinge, Ted Greiman and Graydon Lau. Honorary casket bearers were Marvin and Gladys Barz, Howard and Pauline Greiman, Rev. Chester and Grace Ploeger, Eldridge and Gladys Alden, Chet and Elsie Renner and Ray and Alice Wille.
Active bearers were Robert Anderson, Kent Huenenman, Fred Lemke, Don Greiman, Don Anderson and Clayton Greiman.
Burial was in Peace Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Chapel in Garner. Clarence "Syke" Alfred Lenz, the son of Wesley G. and Mathilda Anna (Greiman) Lenz, was born July 8, 1912 on a farm southwest of Garner in Liberty Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Reformed Church. "Syke" attended the rural school of Liberty Township, Garner High School and Hamilton's Business College in Mason City. He farmed with his parents for several years.
November 15, 1938, he married Ruby Lorraine Nielsen at his parents home south of Garner. They farmed south of Garner until they retired in 1984 and moved into town. He enjoyed fishing and working with horses.
He was a member of Peace Reformed Church where he served as a Decon, Elder and member of the Building Committee for the Church. He served on many boards and committees in the area, some of which were Klemme Cooperative Grain Company, the Klemme School Board, Hancock County Pork Producers, The Tri-County Drying Association and as a trustee for Liberty Township,
He is survived by his wife, Ruby L. Lenz of Garner; his son, Garold "Gary" Lenz and his wife Shirley of Garner; two grandchildren, Sue Dallenbach and her husband, David of Las Vegas, NV. and Steven Lenz and his wife, Vicki of Garner and their daughters, Nalani Lenz and Holly Lenz. Two sisters, Lois Hueneman and her husband, Elmer of Garner and Ruth Haberkamp of Garner; a brother-in-law, Clifford Anderson of Klemme; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Norma Stromer and Evelyn Anderson; and an infant brother.
