Funeral services for Harvey Barz, 85, held December 30 at Klemme

Harvey E. Barz, 85, of Klemme, died Sunday (Dec. 27, 1992) at North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme, with the Rev. Don Walters officiating. Burial will be in Ell Township cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Harvey E. Barz Memorial Fund.

Harvey E. Barz was born March 10, 1907, in Hancock County, son of Fredrich and Martha (Hartbeck) Barz. He attended Klemme High school.

He married Mabel Brouwer on November 24, 1932, at the United Church of Christ.

He taught Sunday school for 34 years, was an elder and a deacon in the church, was active in Boy Scouts, served on the Klemme Town Council and Klemme School Board, was secretary/treasurer of the Klemme Lion's Club for 28 years and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest honor in the Lion's Club for leadership and service.

He was a Standard Oil dealer for 37 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Barz, Klemme; one daughter, Myrna and her husband, DeLoss Main, Appleton, WI; two sons, Harley and his wife Dora Barz, Sheldon, and Graydon and his wife, Marlene Barz, Camp Spring, MD; two sisters, Ella Rosendahl, Garner, and Doris Greiman, Klemme; one brother, Marvin Barz, Klemme; one sister-in-law, Emma Barz, Garner; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Christa and Carrie, of Sheldon, Kristin Barz, Arlington, VA, and Graydon L. Barz, Jr., Dayton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronald, and a brother-in-law, Walter Rosendahl.

Services for Harvey E. Barz, 85, Klemme, who died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1992 at the North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City, were held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme, with the Rev. Don Walters officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Lynette Nuehring, and vocalist, Marilyn Janssen.

Honorary casket bearers were Mel Robie, Forest Langlitz, Gerald Knight, Orville Bridges, Eldon Hagen, Mitchell Bock, Lynford Back and Troy Smeby.

Active bearers were Clayton Greiman, Lowell Greiman, Duane Brouwer, Jim Trenary, Gordon Brouwer and Art Hoffman.

Burial was at the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme with Tenold Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Harvey Elmer Barz, the son of Fredrich and Martha (Hartbeck) Barz, was born March 10, 1907 in Hancock County. He was baptized and confirmed in the United Church of Christ and attended Klemme High School.

November 24, 1932, he married Mabel Brouwer at the United Church of Christ. Harvey taught Sunday School 34 years, was an Elder and a Deacon many years, was active in Boy Scouts, served on the Town Council, School Board, was secretary and treasurer of the Klemme Lion's Club for 28 years, and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest honor in the Lion's for leadership and service.

Harvey worked for Standard Oil for 37 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and working with service organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel of Klemme; sons, Harley and wife Dora of Sheldon, and Graydon and his wife, Marlene Barz, Camp Spring, MD; a daughter, Myrna and her husband, DeLoss Main of Appleton, WI; five grandchildren, Matthew of Storm Lake, Christa of Sioux Falls, SD, Carrie of Sheldon, Kristin Barz, Arlington, VA, and Graydon L. Barz, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Ella Rosendahl of Garner, and Doris and her husband, Eugene Greiman of Klemme; one brother, Marvin and his wife, Gladys of Klemme; and a sister-in-law, Emma Barz of Garner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronald, and a brother-in-law, Walter Rosendahl.
