PATTERSON

This community was shocked to learn of the untimely death of Frank Patterson and none the more so than the writer who has known him since his youth, honest upright, generous to a fault. Why he should be taken in his youth is more than we can understand. Perhaps some day it may be revealed to us as God moves in mysterious way his wonders to perform.

Frank Patterson died of appendicitis last Thursday. The funeral was in the U. P. church Saturday. There were more present than could well be seated and the procession to the cemetery was a long one.

Frank came to Garner about 13 years ago. He was a young man but 18 years old. Since then he has lived and worked here. His kind ways, industrious habits and honest dealing won him friends by the hundred. There was no young man who stood better or was better liked in this community. He was invariably kind to his parents who depended upon him largely for their support. In death he was remarkable for his piety trusting in Jesus and saying he was just going home and was perfectly happy.

Frank Patterson Dead

The community was saddened by the sudden sickness and death of Frank Patterson. He was taken sick with appendicitis and all that physicians knowledge or nurses skill and faithfulness and loving ministrations of friends and loved ones could do could not stay the ravages of the disease.

He was a young man of integrity and christian character and all who knew him were his friends. He was gone from our midst, but he has left a record of courage and endurance that would be well for many of our young men to follow. He came to Hancock county 13 years ago when 18 years of age and he has practically been the provider for his father's family since that time. He was uncomplaining, always charitable, a good and kind neighbor and none could ever say that he was not true to any trust imposed.

For a young man he has carried a heavy load of responsibility, but now he has shifted his load to the great Burden Bearer, the Lord Jesus. He died trusting him, speaking of the home to which he was going and admonishing his friends at his bedside to prepare for that upper and better home. While there is sorrow at his departure, yet there is rejoicing that he has entered into his rest and is now enjoying the comforts of his heavenly home.

The funeral was held at the United Presbyterian church of which the deceased was a member and the church was filled with those who wished to show their respect for their departed friend and neighbor.
