John Preston Grove

John P. Grove was born in Defiance County, Ohio, May 10, 1847, moved to Cornington, Indiana with his parents when 8 years old where he grew to manhood. Then he moved to Champaign County, Illinois where he farmed several years and July 4, 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah F. Post. They moved to Thomasboro, Illinois where they lived for 11 years, and March 1, 1899 moved to Iowa. In 1901 Mr. Grove and family moved near Klemme, Hancock County, Iowa, living in Ell Townships till 3 years ago, he moved to Avery Township, where November 15, he passed away.

He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and five children; Benjamin H., John P., Florence, Gibson, and Walla. Four children preceded him to the home beyond, also a step son and daughter, B. W. Post and Mrs. H. E. Buckley, also two sisters and one brother.

Mr. Grove was a dependable man in his neighborhood and good farmer and a kind husband and father, but the family mourns not as those that have no hopes beyond the grave. All that loving friends and medical skill could do was done for him.

From Klemme Times - John P. Grove was born in Defiance County, Ohio on May 10, 1847 and he died near Klemme, Iowa on the 15th of November, 1915. When 8 years of age his parents removed to Covington, Indiana where he grew to manhood. On July 4, 1888 he was joined in marriage to Sarah F. Post. To this union were born 9 children.

Mr. Grove and family moved to Iowa 16 years ago. Two of these years were spent in Hamilton County and 14 in Hancock County. He was taken seriously sick last May and partially during these months until last Monday, when at 2:45 p.m. he gently fell asleep to awaken in the resurrection.

Those left to mourn his loss are his wife and five children: John P., Benjamin H., Florence, Gibson, and Walla, besides two step children, Brunnie Post and Norma Buckley. Four preceded their father in death.

Mr. Grove was an upright citizen and had the confidence of those near him who also felt assured he was prepared to go.

The funeral was held at the home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by interment by the side of one of his children in the Garner Cemetery.
