Carl Robinson Long, 83, of Corwith, died Tuesday (Jan. 5, 1999) at the Kanawha Community Home, Kanawha. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Corwith, with the Rev. Caroline Engelbrecht officiating. Burial will be in the Corwith Cemetery.Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.

Carl Robinson Long [formerly of Eagle Grove] was born May 31, 1915, in Corwith to Carl Foose Long and Jean Rosebud Robinson Long. Carl attended Corwith Community School and graduated in 1933. He then continued his education at the Universary of Iowa where he played basketball and was on the University of Iowa Track and Field Team. Upon completing his studies, Carl returned to Corwith and engaged in farming for a number of years.

On January 12, 1942 Carl was united in marriage to Emily B. Johnson of Badger, Iowa. To this union, three children were born. In 1957 Carl and Emily moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa where Carl started his career with Mutual and United of Omaha with offices in Fort Dodge and Webster City. Carl continued in the Insurance industry until his retirement. After retiring, Carl and Emily moved back to Corwith where he resided until his death.

Carl is survived by his wife, Emily, of Corwith; his children, Carl David Long and wife Joan, of Postville, and Sherrie Long-Dobson and husband Larry, of Chaska, Minn.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice C. Lederer, of Sun City West, Ariz.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James Michael Long and one great-grandson, Torin David Long.
