Lois Naomi VerHoef was born on September 30, 1913, one of eleven children, to Nels and Lily (Jacobson) Thompson. She received her education in Forest City schools.

She was united in marriage to Herman VerHoef on March 15, 1934 in Forest City, where they made their home their entire lives, first on the farm and later moving to town.

Through the years at one time they operated Herman's Cafe. She also worked at Smith's Firestone, Bowen's Food Center and Vince's Hardware. Lois also would help out with cleaning for friends.

The couple enjoyed camping with Merle and Tharin and playing cards. The girls also liked going shopping together. She was a constant companion of her sister Uva at the nursing home, visiting daily and bringing goodies. She enjoyed spending time with nieces and nephews, and always helping out if there was a need.

Lois is survived by her sister, Uva Hanson of Forest City, brothers-in-law Junior (Marg) VerHoef and Donald Gahan; sisters-in-law Nancy Steffen and Willetta Thompson and many nieces and nephews. Also special caregivers nieces Deb & Robin and friends Tharin & Edna.
