December 26, 1920 - November 7, 2007

FOREST CITY -- Merle A. Smith, age 86 of rural Forest City, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Ventura, IA.

Memorial service will be Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City with Pastor Douglas Farrell officiating. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, November 9, 2007 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City.

Merle A. Smith, son of Andrew and Mary (Peterson) Smith, went to be with Jesus Christ on November 7, 2007, at age 86.

When he was drafted into the Army, he was working in an airplane factory in San Diego, CA. He served in the Army during WW II, 1942 - 1945, taking part in the German theatre. He received a purple heart for his injuries. When discharged, he started farming. He lived most of his life in the Forest City area.

In 1945, he married Evelyn Olson. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. To this union, seven children were born. Alan (Jennifer) of Scotts Valley, CA; Randy (deceased) (Linda of Fullerton, CA); Carollee of Forest City; Judy of Minneapolis; Mark (Cindy) of Forest City; Wendy of Forest City; and Eric (Valerie) of Dallas, TX. There are ten grandchildren, Andy (Jaime), Lauren, Julie, Stephanie, Jeremy (Dana), John (Beth), Allison, Ashley (Ahnaf), Megan, Alex. There are seven great grandchildren, Kaleb, Sarah, Jonah, Lily, Nicole, Hope, Jessica.

He was preceded in death by his son Randy, a grandchild Jeremy, his parents Andrew and Mary, his sister Lucille Myhre, his brothers Lloyd Smith, Glenn Smith, and Harold Smith.

Merle's main interests/passions were Bibles for China, studying prophecy, sharing the Gospel, missions, Bible studies, pulpit supply, and enjoying his family.

John 3:16. For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
