Funeral Rites Held In Miller

Miller- Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph H. Smith, 60, telephone operator here for many years were held March 23 in the Smith home here with the Rev. S. W. Cunningham, pastor of the First Methodist church in Garner, officiating.

Burial was in Madison cemetery with Harold Rhine, Alvin Halverson, Robert Anderson, Walter Totten, Clark Clement and Bert Anderson as pallbearers.

Mrs. Joseph Smith was born March 3, 1892, the daughter of Anna and Columbus Murray at Lacona. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity. In December, 1928, she moved to Eagle Grove making her home with her only aunt, Mrs. Emma Helgevold. She was a member of the Methodist church at Lacona, in which church she taught Sunday school.

April 10, 1929, she was united in marriage to Joe Smith at Eagle Grove where they established a home. In 1930 they moved and settled on a farm northeast of Garner. In 1947, they moved to Miller where Mrs. Smith became the telephone operator.

She died March 21 in Forest City Municipal hospital, having been admitted the previous day.

Surviving are her husband, one sister, Mrs. Guy Beal of Ventura, a brother, Rufus Murray of Indianola, one aunt, Mrs. Emma Helgevold of Eagle Grove.
