Darol Merle Mitchell
May 30, 1944 - December 1, 2005

Darol M. Mitchell, age 61, formerly of Forest City, residing in Red Wing, MN, died Thursday, December 1, 2005 at the Fairview Red Wing Hospital in Red Wing, MN. Memorial service will be Monday, December 5, 2005 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Inunrment will be at Madison Township Cemetery in rural Forest City.

Darol Merle Mitchell was born in Wright County, Iowa, east of Belmond, on his Aunt Jerushia & Uncle Recee Redmond's farm to Milo Merle and Daisy R. (Wilson) Mitchell. He was the youngest of five siblings.

He was raised in Forest City and attended school through the 10th grade. He then started up a band with Bob Mary. Darol also played with the Fjetland Band, with the Rondalls and the Blue Banners. He had several other bands.

On January 3, 1965 he married Gail Rich of Algona, Iowa. This union was blessed with two daughters. The couple later divorced. Darol worked for Gulf Gas Station of Highway 69 North in Forest City. He also worked for Kayot-Forester and Winnebago Industries. He held other jobs but music was his life.

On January 3, 1976 he married Beverly Jean Phillips of Woden, Iowa. He adopted Jennifer Phillips and they were blessed with another daughter. The couple later divorced.

In October of 1984 Darol suffered a serious stroke which left him paralyzed on the left side. He lost all his ability to sing and play music. He entered the nursing home in Austin, MN in 1997. He later transferred to Albert Lea, MN and then to a Red Wing, MN nursing home.

Darol is survived by 4 daughters: Kimberly (Richard) Brass of Thompson, IA, Valorie (Robert) Marr of Thompson, IA, Jesse (Scott) Schwering of Fort Worth, Texas Jennifer Mitchell Nauman of Fort Worth, Texas and a step-son, Richard (Dick) Phillips of Austin, MN. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren: Christopher, Cory and Dakota Brass, GabreGail and Anastasia Marr, Angelica and Alex Schwering, Staci Marr and great-granddaughter, Korra Marr. Also by 2 brothers, Cecil (Karen) Mitchell of Forest City, IA and Phillip Mitchell of St. Paul, MN, a sister, Jeanette (Doyce) Michelson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Also survived by Beverly Phillips of Fort Worth, Texas and Gail Eggers of Fertile, IA.

Darol was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Phyllis who died at birth, his grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
