Evelyn Kyhl of Britt, died Monday, February 4, 2002, at the Westview Care Center in Britt. She was 96.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kyhl were held Saturday, May 4, 2002 at the United Methodist Church, Britt. The Rev. Robert Dodge officiated. Music was provided by Marilyn DeKruyff, who accompanied soloist, Carol Evers. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. The Ewing Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn, the daughter of Mortimore and Magdalene "Maggie" (Nelson) Truitt, was born May 22, 1905, in Earl Park, Indiana. Her father died when she was three years old and the family moved to Hutchins, Iowa to live with her grandparents, Sven and Johanna Nelson. After living in Hutchins and north of Britt on Upper Flat, they moved to Balatine, Minnesota for three years. In 1917, her mother married C. M. Christenson and they moved to his farm north of Britt on Upper Flat.

She received her education in the country schools in Hutchins, Balatine, Minnesota and Upper Flat. She also attended the Britt High School. She attended the Upper Flat Church until moving to Britt. She loved playing the piano and reading until she lost her sight.

On November 11, 1926, Evelyn Truitt was united in marriage with Emil Kyhl at the home of her parents. The couple farmed near Britt for three years until 1929 when they moved to a ranch in Montana. In 1948, they returned to Britt.

Mrs. Kyhl was a long time member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Odd Fellows organization, and the United Methodist Church in Britt.

She is survived by two sons, Emil Kyhl, Jr. and his wife, Eleanor of Los Angeles, California and Arlen Kyhl and his wife, Tressa of Billings, Montana; a sister, Deloris Leaman and her husband, Dean of Columbia, Maryland; sister-in-law, Elina Shirah of Billings, Montana; 11 grandchildren including Mark Kyhl and his wife, Barb of Britt; 30 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; two sons, Rollin and Denny; two grandsons, Chris and Kelly; three brothers, Emmet, Albert, Urban; three sisters, Carol, Delphine and Evelyn.
