May 11, 1923 - January 13, 2006

Avis J. Dakin, age 82 of Joice, died Friday, January 13, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral service will be Monday, January 16 at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church in Forest City. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church.

Avis Jane Dakin was born in Forest City, Iowa on May 11, 1923, the daughter of Lester and Martha (Sahr) Fisher. She grew up in Forest City and graduated from Forest City High School, where she and a friend were Forest City High's first cheerleaders. She then worked in a lawyer's office for two years.

On August 1, 1943 she was married to Gordon Dakin at the First Congregation Church in Forest City. The couple made their home on a dairy farm near Joice and lived their entire married lives there.

Avis was a member of First Congregation Church in Forest city and active in Women's Fellowship. She served a term as President of the Worth County Farm Bureau Women's Organization. She was an avid reader and like to do handwork. Avis enjoyed camping, bird watching and caring for her flowers gardens. She died at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the age of 82 years.

She is survived by her children: Julie and Roger Rollefson of Forest City, Iowa, Dennis and Debra Dakin of Manly, Iowa and Donald and Shari Dakin of Moravia, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordon in 2004 and sisters Iris Ryan and June Scourick.
