May 21, 1943 - September 16, 2015

BRITT – Richard H. Barker, 72, of Britt, beloved husband of Linda (Eenhuis) Barker for 45 years, passed away from cancer Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt with Fr. Paul Lippstock officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Inurnment will be at a later date in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.

Richard Henry Barker, the son of George and Josephine (DeWeerdt) Barker, was born May 21, 1943, the oldest of nine children. He graduated from Britt High School in 1961 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 serving his country during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Britt. On January 24, 1970 he married Linda Eenhuis at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt. They lived in Britt where they raised their family and Richard was employed as a line foreman for Alliant Energy. After retiring from Alliant Richard and Linda traveled in their RV throughout the United States. Richard loved life and had a sense of humor. He enjoyed his family, fishing, golfing and farming.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, VFW 4370 and the Britt American Legion.

Richard is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Blaine (Karen) and their son, Kage, of Newport News, VA; daughter, Stephanie Barker of Mason City; his mother, Josephine Barker of Britt; siblings, Roger (Joyce) Church of Garner, Rick (Pat) O’Toole of Cedar Rapids, Len (Mary) McCormick of Cedar Falls, Bill Barker of Britt, Jeff (Mona) Secora of Mason City, Jerry (Cindy) Barker of Britt, Ann Barker of Britt and Teresa Kerns of Britt; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George; grandparents; and parents-in-law, Fred and Amelia (Lassahn) Eenhuis.
