Funeral Held For Farm Woman
Mrs. John Velau, 56, died at her home in Liberty township last week Tuesday after a long illness.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the Klemme Methodist Church using the theme, "Light out of Darkness." Mrs. Vern Bisom and Mrs. James Carlson sang and was accompanied by Maurice Jacobs at the organ.
Interment was in the Ell Township Cemetery near Klemme and the casket bearers were: Hugh Hummel, Fred Pringnitz, Elmer Beier, Elmer Schaefer, Victor Schoenwetter and Dwight Hummel.
The following is the obituary prepared and read by Rev. E. M. Egeland during the service:
Mabel Cora Velau
Mabel Cora Velau was born April 28th, 1896 at McGregor, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Marie Welch. On January 20th, 1913 she was united in marriage to John Velau. They started housekeeping on a farm in Liberty Township where she lived until her death. She became a member of the former German Methodist Church on July 25, 1920 and of the Klemme Methodist Church by the merger of 1924.
After a gradual decline in health she passed away on July 1st, 1952 shortly after 9:00 o'clock in the evening at the farm home, having reached the age of 56 years, 2 months and 3 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, John Velau; one daughter Betty, Mrs. Francis Buseman; two sons, Charles and Vern; and two grandsons. Also surviving; are her mother, Mrs. Marie Wood; a brother, Bob Welch and a sister, Mrs. Walter Manahl, all of the state of Washington; her step-mother, Mrs. Anna Welch and two half-sisters, Mrs. Fred Kadlec and Mrs. Nick Miller of McGregor; one half-brother, Lloyd Welch of Giard, Iowa
Her father, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
