Hazel Miller

Hazel Arvilla Jamieson Miller was born July 31, 1894 to Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Jamieson. She attended school at LeMars and graduated from Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, on July 18, 1921. She taught country school at Hinton before her marriage to Rev. Park Miller on April 21, 1915; three sons were born to them: Hubert Vernon who died at the age of nine at Colo; Victor Hugo and Floyd Glenn.

They served churches at Merrill, Melbourne, Defiance, Colo, Cresco, Belle Plaine, Sheffield and Sumner-Union before coming to Goodell in 1952.

Hazel Miller was a leader in all groups of the church. When they served a charge where there was more than one church, she often preached at one of the churches. She also taught piano in many of the places where they lived.

Mr. Miller retired from the active ministry in 1957. They purchased a home in Goodell and continued to live there until 1972. While living in Goodell they served the Congregational church in Galt for seven years until it closed. Five years ago they moved to Nora Springs and have since lived with their son Glenn.

Services were held for Hazel Miller, 82, on July 12 after she had died as a result of cancer on July 9. They were held at the First United Methodist Church in Nora Springs with Dr. Alfred E. Wilkin of Des Moines officiating. Burial was in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Park E. Miller and two sons, Glenn Miller of Nora Springs and Victor Hugo Miller of Ontario, Calif.
