Charles Mikesh

Charles Joseph, son of George Mikesh Sr. and Sophronia (Cox) Mikesh was born January 22, 1890 in Hickory Grove and passed away at his home there August 28, 1949 at 11:50 P.M.

He grew to manhood on his father's farm at Hickory Grove. He was a graduate of the Hickory Grove grade school, also of Ellsworth Business College of Iowa Falls and of the Agricultural College at Ames, Iowa.

On January 1st, 1916, he was united in marriage to Kathlyn M. Pannoff at Belmond, Iowa. To this union seven children were born.

They farmed near Belmond the first years of their married life and then moved west of Klemme where they farmed for five years after which they moved to a farm near Forest City where they lived for 16 years. Charles then bought his father's farm, where they have been farming until his sudden passing.

He is survived by his loving companion, five daughters, Colina, Mrs. Robert Haan of Garner; Gladys, Mrs. Edwin Shahan of Belmond; Grace, Mrs. Willard Zaspel of Burlington; Ruby, Mrs. Richard Schmidt of Joice, and Constance, Mrs. Paul Dallman Jr. of Gowrie; two sons, George, who at the time of his father's death was stationed in Berlin, Germany with the United States Military Government, and Charles Jr. at home and by 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, George of Onamia, Minn., and Calvin of Sioux Falls, So. Dak. and one sister, Margaret Tocker, of Primghar, Iowa, also a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joseph Mikesh and Abner Cox.

He was a member of the Goodell Evangelical United Brethren church and was present on Homecoming and Membership Roll Call Sunday, August 21 to answer present when his name was called.

A kind and loving companion and father, a good friend and neighbor has answered the call to come up higher and he will be greatly missed in his home,and community, but our loss is His gain.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, Sept. 2 at the Goodell Evangelical United Brethren church with the pastor, Rev. W. T. Boston in charge. Burial was in the Goodell cemetery.

A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Henry Brede, Mrs. Robert McNutt, Sr., V. E. Harris and J. J. Cook sang "Ivory Palaces" "Saved by Grace" and "Good Night and Good Morning", accompanied by Mrs. Paul Veldhouse.

Casket bearers were Henry Dieger, Wm. Dieger, Wm. Eimbrink, Peter Pals, Erwin Ruka and Lee Shahan.
