Merlin O. Hanson, 60

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 11, at Goodell United Methodist Church for Merlin Orville Hanson, who died Sunday at the Britt Hospital. Rev. Don Griffin officiated and burial was in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell, where military rites were held. His son, Duane, gave the Prayer Service for the relation.

Merlin Hanson was born January 3, 1922, at Dows to Bennet and Gena Gunderson Hanson. He received his education in the Dows Public School.

He married Florence Bates at Spencer on March 11, 1950. He farmed near Goodell for many years. Hanson served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He was a life member of the American Legion, V.F.W., D.A.V, Soil Conservation Commission, N.F.O. and Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife Florence; son Duane of Ankeny; daughter Janet (Mrs. Randy) Lick of Dows; three grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth, Gilman, and Milo of Dows, and Olin of Eldarado, Springs, Mo., and two sisters, Alice (Mrs. Elmer) Osborne of Dows and Arlene (Mrs. Udell) Engelby of Iowa Falls.

Casket bearers will be Junior Bates, Bennie Engelby, Larry Hanson, Merrill Hanson, Todd Maresch and Alan Osborne. Honorary bearers will be Ransom Allen, Joe Dana, Roy Foss, Wilmer Hauge, Richard Steenblock and Howard Tulp.
