Donald E. Sampson
Donald Elmer Sampson, 84, of Britt passed away Thursday, August 16, 2001 at his home in Britt.
Don, the son of Edward John and Mitilda (Thompson) Sampson was born May 5, 1917 at Nevada, Iowa. He attended Milford Township Schools in Nevada, Iowa.
Don was united in marriage with Lucille J. Breen on June 7, 1939 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa by Rev. Joseph Campbell. To this union were born three children: Josephine Marie, Patricia Ann, and Jerome Edward.
Don and Lucille farmed at Roland, Iowa before moving to Britt in 1947. They moved from the Britt area in 1961 and eventually retired to Prescott Valley, Arizona. They moved back to the Britt area in 1995 to be close to family. Don was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Don is survived by his wife Lucille; three children: Josephine (Sampson) Lang and her husband, Edward of Britt, Patricia (Sampson) Byers of Britt, and Jerome Sampson and Jeanne of Arvada, Colorado; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, four brothers: Clarence of Story City, Arnold and his wife, Alma of Story City, Glenn and his wife, Ethyleen of Nevada, Loren and his wife, Arlene of Ankeny; and two sisters Inez (Sampson) Rudny of Mesa, Arizona and Ione (Sampson) French of Brooklyn, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Evelyn (Sampson) Farthing and Grace (Sampson) Jenson. (Furnished by Pat Byers, daughter)
