Services for Richard Ax, 77,of Ventura, who died Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, were held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22 at Zion United Church of Christ in Garner with Rev. Larry Laskie as officiant.

Mrs. Alan Jass served as organist. Ushers were Allan DeWitt, Jack Greiman, Elwin Weaver and Dean Goll. Honorary bearers were Reuben Grell, Fred Root, Arno Olson, Victor Meyer, Earl Boehnke, Grant Anderson, Dr. William R. Turner and Carl Ashland.

Active bearers were Tom Hyde, Jay Griggs, Robert Alsbury, Merlin Brinkman, Richard Hopper and LeRoy Ziesmer. Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Richard Theodore Ax, the son of Charles and Lena (Zwald) Ax, was born June 9, 1908 on a farm near Klemme. After graduating from Klemme High School in 1926, he farmed with his parents for several years.

October 16, 1931 he married Mildred Hampel at her parents' farm home south of Garner. They farmed in the Klemme area until 1942, when they moved to the Ventura area where they continued to farm. In 1956 they moved into Ventura where Richard was a salesman until he became president of the Ventura State Bank. He retired from the bank in 1975.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Garner where he served as both elder and deacon. He was a charter member of the Ventura Lion's Club and had served on the Ventura School Board for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Ventura; his children: Mrs. Michael (Eunice) Kinsella of Garner, Richard E. Ax of Las Vegas, Nev. and Mrs. Barry (Susan) Bernstein of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren: Mrs. Kathryn Kinsella-Brown, Kirk Charles Kinsella, Joel Ax and Annalisa Swig; and one great-grandson, Tanner Lee Kinsella.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Thomas Lee Kinsella and Karen Sue Kinsella; his parents; and his sister, Faith Ax.
