Myrtle Casperson Zwald 1909-1994

Services for Myrtle Casperson Zwald, 85, of Garner, who died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1994 at Heritage Care Center in Mason City, were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 9, at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Robert Ellis as officiant.

Mrs. Dean Cataldo, organist, accompanied Warren Torkelson, soloist. Ushers were Marvin Schoneman and Maynard Schoneman.

Casket bearers were David Casperson, Stephen Casperson, Daniel Casperson, Todd Casperson, Tim Casperson and Troy Casperson.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Myrtle Josephine Zwald, daughter of Clinton William and Josephine (Haskell) Irving, was born July 11, 1909 in Gloucester, MA. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Winnebago, IL. In 1921, the family moved to a farm southeast of Garner. Myrtle attended the rural schools of Ell Township, graduated from Klemme High School in 1927 and then went to Brown's Business College in Rockford, IL. She worked as a bookkeeper in the Bush Jewelry Store in Rockford for eight years.

March 21, 1935, she married Chester H. Casperson at Garner. They farmed north of Miller until her husband's death in 1970. November 22, 1973, she moved into Garner to a home built by her father.

July 29, 1977, she married Kenneth Louis Zwald at the United Methodist parsonage in Garner. They lived in Garner the rest of their married life. On April 9, 1990, she moved to Heritage Care Center in Mason City. Myrtle enjoyed delivering meals for Meals on Wheels, crafts and flower gardening.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W., a Birthday Club and was active in 4-H Club work and the Garner Garden Club.

She is survived by three sons, David Casperson of Anoka, MN, Stephen Casperson and his wife, Sylvia of Sioux Falls, SD, and Daniel Casperson and his wife, Marcia of Ankeny; five grandchildren, Todd, Tim, Troy, Tara and Amy; two step-grandchildren, Brian and Aaron; two sisters, Norma Petit of Mesa, AZ and Eleanor Brozik and her husband, Edward of Garner; and a brother, Herbert Irving and his wife Gelaine of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Chester Casperson, February 14, 1970 and Kenneth Zwald, March 17, 1990; her parents; and two daughters-in-law, Nancy Hiscocks Casperson and Christy Christensen Casperson.
