September 30, 1927 - September 8, 2011GARNER - Roy M. Kruger, 83, of Garner died Thursday (September 8, 2011) at his home of prostate cancer and went to be with his loving Heavenly Father.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 13th at Agape Christian Family Church in Clear Lake with Rev. David Toyne officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Roy Martin Kruger, the son of Andrew and Jennie (Miller) Kruger, was born September 30, 1927 on a farm near Ackley. He married Leila (Shane) Kruger on October 8, 1950 in Bethany, MO. Roy served his country during the Korean conflict in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 spending 18 months in the Special Police in Giesen, Germany. Roy moved his family to Torrance, CA in 1961 and worked for Reynolds Aluminum until moving back to Iowa to raise baby pigs in 1970. He raised feeder pigs on an acreage near Miller while working at Winnebago as a truck driver, and fork lift driver until he retired in 1992. Roy greatly enjoyed his family and his favorite past time was reading his Bible, reading books of Prophesy and listening to the Gather's music. He accepted the Lord as a child and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. A huge highlight of his life was following his Savior in baptism in the Jordan river in Israel in November of 1998. He attended Agape Christian Family Church for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leila, of Garner; four children, Terry (Ginny) Kruger of Ankeny, Larry (Pam) Kruger of Thornton, Vicky (Bill) Sankey of Forest City and Sandy (John) Alne of Rockwell City; fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer Hall and Roxanne Oppman, Katie, Tyler, Caleb and Isaac Kruger, Ryan, Justin and Aaron Kruger, Joshua Sankey, Jenna Gaskil and Jacob Sankey, and Seth and Jesse Alne; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Agnes Pieper of Richardson, TX, Jennie (Paul) Warschkow of Hampton and Grace Robertson of Hubbard; a brother, Frank (Ethel) Kruger of Cameron, WI; a brother-in-law, Neal Shane of Clear Lake; two sisters-in-law, Eloise Lund of Iowa Falls and Darlene (Don) Dunbar of East Peoria, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherrie Ann Oppman; three sisters, Etta Janssen, Helen DePrenger and Mydena Kruger; four brothers, Dick, Andrew, Jake and Herman Kruger; in-laws, Carl Janssen, Leo DePrenger, Bob Lund, Bob Robertson, Tena Kruger, Betty Shane and Clarence Pieper; and four nephews, Gary Pieper, Myrl Kruger, Mike Shane and Michael Rochester.
