Edward Brady Drowns In Gravel Pit Sunday

Edward Brady, 23, was drowned in a gravel pit east of Crystal Lake last Sunday, August 3. He and a group of friends had gone there to swim about 7:30 in the evening when the accident occurred.

Edward is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brady, who reside on a farm two miles north of Woden. He was employed by the John Van Nice Construction Co. on the erection of a new storage elevator in Woden.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Roger, who is serving in the U. S. Navy and now in Japan, and a sister, Mary, at home.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete the first of the week pending word from his brother in Japan.

Brady was swimming with a group of young people when he apparently suffered cramps and went down in about 30 feet of water.

Woden Youth Among Victims

Howard [Edward] J. Brady, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Brady, Woden, drowned Sunday night in a gravel pit on the farm of Ott Larson, two and a half miles northeast of Crystal Lake.

According to Hancock Co. Coroner, Kenneth Boughton, Britt, Brady was swimming with a group of young people when he apparently suffered cramps and went down in about 30 feet of water. The body was recovered 15 minutes later by Dennis Gerdes, Woden, who dived for it. Artificial respiration was administered but he was pronounced dead by an attending physician who was called from town.

He was born July 23, 1935, at Thompson. He was a graduate of the Woden High School. He is survived by his parents, a brother, Roger, serving in Japan with the U.S. Navy, and a sister, Mary, at home. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Woden.

Funeral rites are pending at the Boughton Funeral Home, Britt.
