Susan Ellen Berhow-Rivera, 55, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, died on Friday, January 27, 2006, at her home.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, January 31, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner with the Rev. David Wiersbe of the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake officiating. Music was provided by Jen Thoe and Kevin Hanson.
Honorary bearers were Jonathan Berhow-Rivera, Nelson Berhow-Rivera, Andrea Berhow-Rivera, Brandon Berhow-Goll, Dalton Berhow-Goll, Blair Berhow-Goll, Rockford Berhow, Natasha Berhow, Abraham Quintus, Samuel Quintus, Erin Fortin and Terra Bill.
Interment was in the Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Susan Ellen Berhow-Rivera, the daughter of John and Jane (Hare) Berhow, was born July 2, 1950, at Hampton. She attended school at Hampton until 1962 when she moved with her family to Garner. She graduated from the Garner-Hayfield High School in 1968 and continued her education at Greeley, Colorado, where she received her nursing degree.
On April 21, 1978, she was married to Nelson A. Rivera at New York, New York. They lived in New York, Fort Collins, Colorado, Garner and in November of 1986 moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Susan was employed as a registered nurse at the St. Paul United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, until ill health caused her to retire in August of 2004. She died at her home after battling breast cancer for the past several years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, singing and playing guitar. She was a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association.
Survivors include her husband, Nelson Rivera of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three children, Jonathan Berhow-Rivera of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Andrea Berhow-Rivera of Eagan, Minnesota and Nelson Berhow-Rivera of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Molly Berhow-Swanberg, Mikaella Berhow-Rivera and Taylor Jonathan Berhow-Rivera.
Survivors also include three sisters, Sandra (Steven) Quintus of Garner, Christine (Bill) Greiman of Klemme and Jennifer (Kevin) Berhow-Hanson of Ventura; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Nancy on May 23, 1966.
