Larry B. Miller, 71, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Britt, died on Friday, February 18, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, February 22, at the United Methodist Church in Britt. The Rev. Robert Dodge officiated. Music was provided by organist, Tammy Johnson who accompanied soloist, Gene Guenther and congregational hymns. Ushers were Dennis Zuehl and Harry Smith.

Honorary bearers were Dr. Duane Diemer, Joseph Wellik, Marion Jones and Neil Adams. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. The Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the West Hancock High School Scholarship Fund or the Dickinson County Trails Association.

Larry Barnes Miller, the son of Mark Frederick and Katherine Matilda (Barnes) Miller, was born on July 3, 1933, in Des Moines. He graduated from the Britt High School in 1951 and the University of Iowa in 1956.

On September 9, 1956, he married Frances J. Wilimek of Newton. They lived in Des Moines where he was employed with the City Service Oil Company. In 1958, they moved to Britt to join his father in the real estate business. Larry worked in the real estate and farm management business in Britt until 1994. They moved to Spirit Lake where he worked with Hoien Realty until semi-retiring in 1999 and fully retiring in 2005.

Larry's main interest was his family. He enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing, card playing, pool and following the University of Iowa athletics.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt and served as a trustee on the Hancock County Memorial Hospital Board and the Britt Public Library. He was a past president of the Britt Rotary Club, the Britt Industrial Development Corporation and the Britt Country Club. He was a past state president of the Iowa Farm and Land Brokers and was designated as Iowa Farm and Land Broker of the Year in 1972. Larry was also president of the Iowa Association of Realtors in 1978 and was selected as Realtor of the Year for the State of Iowa in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Fran of Spirit Lake; three children, Sandra (Pete) Wroblewski of Wheaton, Illinois and their two children, Peter and Kaye, David (Laura) Miller of Excelsior, Minnesota and their two daughters, Hannah and Nicole, and Amy (Dr. Randy) Pas and their two children, Tara and Samson of Arnolds Park; a sister-in-law, Mildred Miller of Britt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Monty Miller.
