John J. Liska, 1923-2005

John J. Liska, 81, of Hayfield, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 15, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Fr. Michael Schueller officiating. Lectors were Mike Liska and Tom Lucke. Music was provided by organist, Mary Kopacek who accompanied the church choir. Mary Ricke and Melvin Wellik ushered.

Casket bearers were Travis Jorgensen, Kelly Bohl, Cody Liska, Cory Lucke, Jay Olson, Missy Liska and Emily Lucke. Interment will be at a later date in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Duncan. The Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner was in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hospice of North Iowa.

John Junior Liska, the son of John Anton and Mary Eleanore (Chizek) Liska, was born on April 29, 1923, on a farm north of Duncan. He attended the Hayfield Consolidated School.

On January 23, 1946, he married Agnes Brcka at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They lived in Duncan where John was employed at the Brcka General Store. They later moved to a farm near Crystal Lake where he farmed and did custom work in the area. In 1967, they moved to their home in Hayfield. John also had a trucking business, which he operated until 1984.

He enjoyed his family, fishing, gardening, playing cards, old time music and dancing. He was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

John is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Hayfield; seven children, Dan Liska of Fort Dodge and his two children, Jamie and Missy, Linda (Tom) Lucke of Lancaster, Wisconsin and their three children, Ryan, Emily and Cory, Mary (Rick) Bohl of Cedaredge, Colorado and their two children, Kelly and Teri, Beverly (John) Olson of Forest City and their three children, Angie, Jay and Rhonda, Jim (Jackie) Liska of Kingman, Arizona and their son, Travis, Mike (Carla) Liska of Britt and their two sons, Cody and Andy and Larry (Rose) Liska of Wimberley, Texas and their son, Noah; and four great-grandchildren, Remington, Austin, Natalie and Trevor.

Survivors also include two brothers, Walter Liska of Sun City, California and Cletus (Marjorie) Liska of Clear Lake; two sisters, Rosemary Schroeder of Anaheim, California and Barbara (Lewis) Nedved of Garner; a sister-in-law, Marian Liska of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo and Donald Liska; sisters, Veronica Thada and Doris Fosdick; and many other relatives.
