Marvin Holck, 73, of Britt, died on Sunday, January 30, 2005, at his home in Britt.
A funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 4, 2005, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. The Ewing-Dugger Funeral Chapel, Britt, was in charge of the arrangements. Rosary services were conducted by the Knights of Columbus.
Marvin Holck, the son of William and Margaret (Jacobson) Holck, was born on July 19, 1931, on the family farm near Britt. He attended the Britt Grade School and graduated from the Britt High School. While attending high school, Marvin was an Iowa Golden Glove Boxer.
On March 15, 1965, Marvin was united in marriage with Peggy Sue Davis in Britt. The couple made their home in Britt where they raised their family.
Marvin was employed by Herman Buns and Son Construction, Winnebago Industries, Hancock County and IMT Transport. Following his retirement, he enjoyed farming with friends and relatives until well into his 70s. In his spare time, he also worked for Ed DeGeus.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and hearing about their successes and achievements in school and sports. Marvin enjoyed fishing, hunting and racing. He was involved in helping to bring great racing to Britt. He was instrumental in helping build the Hancock County Speedway and was dedicated to maintaining the great condition of the track for three years.
Marvin was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was enthusiastic about being involved with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed helping with the rides at the county fair and food stand at Hobo Days. He achieved 4th Degree Knight status and served as Grand Knight for one year. He also volunteered to provide communion to all in need.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Peggy Sue of Britt; six children, Jacqueline Marie and her husband, Dan Hampe of Ames, Tracie Lee and her husband, Matt Covey of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kristie Lynn and special friend, Doug Suby of Garner, William Marvin Holck II of Britt, Connee Rennee and special friend, Tom Blumer of Garner and Kathy Parks of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Covey, Ryan and Chris Hampe, Jesse and Dakota Lambert, Nakita and Todd Holck, Megan and Jacob Balsley, and Shelly Parks; sisters, Edith Drabek of Garner and Evelyn Buffington and husband, John of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Jade Marie Holck; and two brothers, Kenneth Holck and Lloyd Holck.
