Anna M. Falada, of West Des Moines, formerly of Garner, died on Wednesday, January 26, 2005, following a stroke.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, West Des Moines. Private family interment services will be held at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Garner.

Anna Margaret Simper, was born on April 1, 1922, to Frank and Anna (Spangler) Simper. She was educated in the Garner schools and received her high school diploma and Normal Training Teacher's certificate in 1938. She assisted her mother and brother in the family farming operation on a farm west of Garner.

She was united in marriage to Francis G. Falada on September 16, 1947, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner. The couple made their home on the family farm and continued farming until 1953. They moved to Garner in 1954 and to West Des Moines in 1999.

She began entering baked goods at fairs in 1941 and continued to enter baking exhibits at the Iowa State Fair and North Iowa Fair until 1960. During those years, she won over 650 ribbons and honors. In 1959 she received top honors for yeast breads at the Iowa State Fair for her Anniversary Cinnamon Rolls. She was awarded the first of only three gold and diamond pins awarded for this honor. In 1999, she received top honors at the Iowa State Fair for her chiffon cake and angel food cake entries.

Anna demonstrated her cooking skills to others during the years she worked in area restaurants. She and her daughter, Linda, published their recipes in cookbooks in 1977 and 1987. She retired in 1990. Anna enjoyed cooking, raising Stargazer lilies, having coffee with the neighbors and being with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Francis Falada of West Des Moines; her daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Ron Playle; two grandsons, Nolan of Mason City and Brandon of Clear Lake; two step-grandsons; five step-great-grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; six brothers; a son-in-law, John Webster; nephews, Roger Miles and Raymond Young; and a special "son", Douglas Stromer.
