Jay W. Benson, age 76, of Forest City, died on Monday, March 1, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 5, at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake. Burial was in the Crystal Lake Cemetery, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Jay William Benson, was born on September 6, 1927, to Raymond S. Benson and Marie (Rinker) Benson. He attended School #7 in Linden Township through the eighth grade and ninth grade at Forest City. He served stateside in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. Jay was born and lived on the home farm his entire life except during his military service. In April 1963, he married Lila Schnell. The couple later divorced.
Jay was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake and held memberships in the VFW Post 6161 in Leland and the American Legion Post 409 in Crystal Lake.
Jay is survived by his daughters, Verla Nolte of Ackley and Lanette Benson of Greene; sons, Brian Benson of Aplington and David Benson of Allison; his sister, Opal Seeberger of Mason City; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil Benson; and a sister, Viola Moen.
