Elmer J. Griggs dies at Britt following stroke

CRYSTAL LAKE: Elmer J. Griggs, 71, died Thursday at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital. He had been hospitalized since suffering a stroke Friday.

Born Jan. 22, 1891, at Ackley, he was the son of Wesley and Charlotte Ammen Griggs. He was married Feb. 4, 1913, to Mary Murray. They had farmed west of Crystal Lake since their marriage. He had served as a school director and trustee in Crystal Township.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Lloyd, on the home farm; two daughters, Mrs. Dan (Ailen) Gallagher, Coronado, Calif.; Mrs. Stanley (Helen) Zeismer, Garner; 11 grandchildren and a brother, George, Brentwood, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. George (Mabel) Frederickson, Paramount, Calif.; Mrs. P. C. (Elizabeth) Peters, Burbank, Calif.

The time of the funeral has not been set. It will be held at the Boughton Funeral Home, Britt, conducted by the Rev. Fr. Eugene Weimer of the Sacred Heart Church in Woden. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Britt.
