ONE OF OLDEST SETTLERS GONE

MRS. LARS LARSON, MOTHER OF MRS. WALTER FOX AND OTHERS IN COUNTY

Only Three Houses Were Built in Britt When She and Her Husband Came

One of the oldest settlers in this town was Mrs. Lars Larson who died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Fox, in Orthel township. The following sketch of her life was prepared for us by Rev. R. Berntsen, who presided at the funeral Wednesday afternoon at the Evangelical Free Church. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery, Britt.

Minnie H. Matson was born in Sjaelland, Denmark, March 23, 1847, and died Jan. 9, 1933, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Fox, where she has lived since the death of her husband eight years ago. She reached the ripe old age of 86 years, 9 months and 16 days.

She was married in 1873 to Lars Larson at Menstrop, Denmark. Later, in the spring of 1878, they came to Britt, where they lived in the vicinity of Britt and Crystal Lake until death came Monday morning. The deceased was the mother of nine children, one boy dying in infancy and one at the age of sixteen.

Those surviving are Mrs. W. C. Fox, Britt; Mrs. C. D. Jensen, Alden, Minn.; Julius Jensen, Crystal Lake (a foster son who made his home with them since infancy); Martin Larson, of Bancroft; Mrs. Laurence Larson, of Minneapolis; Arthur H. Larson, of Corwith; Otto Larson, of Crystal Lake. There are two half sisters living in Denmark, 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was one of the earliest settlers coming to Britt, where there were only three houses in the town. It can therefore truly be said that she saw this community grow to what it is now, contributing her share to this development.

Mrs. Larson was a splendid Christian character with high ideals, always engaged in the things that would tend to make life brighter and better for others.
