CIVIL WAR VETERAN IS BURIED

Llewellyn Lewis, 95, of Klemme died Sunday at his home, the last Civil War veteran in Hancock county. He served four years in the Civil War and was a member of the Wisconsin regiment. He lived at Klemme more than 50 years.

Born Aug. 8, 1845, at Syracuse, N.Y., Mr. Lewis came west to Beaver Dam, Wis., at the age of one year. He lived there until enlisting in the Union army at the age of 16 on Oct. 12, 1861. He was discharged from the army on Aug. 25, 1865, and returned to Beaver dam.

Moving to Clear Lake in the spring of 1879, Mr. Lewis and Miss Almira McGrady were married and started housekeeping on a 400 acre farm near here.

His wife died and he later married Blanch McGrady. They moved to Quarter Siding which is now Klemme. He is survived by a daughter and five sons, two of whom live in Klemme, Henry Lewis and Verner Lewis.

Burial was made Wednesday at the family lot at the Clear Lake cemetery.

C.E. Melcher and family, Mrs. Lillian Brooks of Mason City and Mrs. Gerald Brooks of Clear Lake, distant relatives of the deceased, attended the funeral at Klemme Wednesday.
