Hancock Was Prairie When Nieman Came

Burial at Kanawha Saturday Closes the Career of a Prominent Farmer

Kanawha, Sept. 21 - After a lingering illness Mr. Albert Nieman passed away at his home northeast of Kanawha last Wednesday about 7:30 o'clock.

About a month age he was taken to the Hampton hospital for an examination, where his condition was not found hopeful.

Mr. Albert Nieman was born on May 18, 1874, in Province Ostfriesland, Germany. In 1880 he accompanied his parents to Parkersburg, Ia., where he received his education in the rural schools. From Parkersburg he moved to Hancock county and on January 19, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Eva Borchers at which time they made their home near Kanawha where they remained until he died, Sept. 16, 1942, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 28 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, seven children; Mrs. Ben Clark (Grace), Mrs. Edd Luppen (Tena); Casper, John, Edwin, Mrs. John Eckhoff (Jennie), all of Kanawha vicinity, and Martin, a U. S. soldier in North Ireland; 18 grandchildren, one brother, Ben, of Klemme, one sister, Mrs. Etta Borchers, of Clear Lake. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Kanawha Christian Reformed church with the Rev. D. D. Plesscher in charge. Interment was in the Kanawha cemetery.
