Joseph Kudej, prominent farmer living near Kanawha, passed away at his home at 4:30 a. m. Monday following a severe illness lasting over several months from kidney trouble. He had been in the hospital at Rochester, Minn., for two weeks and was returned to his home only a few days before his death.

Upon his arrival in America he settled at Rochester, Wis., where he made the acquaintance of Barbara Lahetchka and was married to her forty five years ago. To them were born six children, Joe, of Kanawha; John, of Des Moines; Edward, of Clear Lake; Albert and Mary at home; Mrs. Henry Steverson, of Kanawha.

He is mourned by the children, his, wife, one brother John, of Britt; and four sisters, Mrs. Barbara Nekola, of Vining; Mrs. Mary Benesh, of Olbia, Minn., Mrs. Anna Rose, of Chicago; Emma Kudej of Delevan, Wis.

For the past twenty seven years Mr. Kudej and his family have lived on the same farm northeast of Kanawha. They had previously lived at Ackley, Iowa, and for two years in South Dakota.

Mr. Kudej was a fine man, beloved by his neighbors. He has raised a fine family and will be sadly missed. He was a member of the Methodist church at Kanawha and funeral services are being held there this afternoon, the Rev. F. W. Ortmeyer in charge. Burial will be in the Kanawha cemetery.
