Services for Carl W. Frick, 82, of Britt, who died Sunday, July 17, 1988 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Wednesday, July 20, 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Britt with Rev. James A. Mattson officiating.

Music was provided by organist, LeAnn Buns, who accompanied the congregation. Ushers were John Burgardt and Neil Gabrielson.

Casket bearers were Richard Grifhorst, Bernard Kunkel, Robert Artes, Wilbur Crone, Erwin Buck and Ervin Kahl.

Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Carl Wesley Frick, the son of James Wesley and Gertrude E. Wells Frick, was born June 30, 1905 at Bristow and was baptized in the Church of Christ. He received his education at Plymouth High School and Hamilton Business College.

August 22, 1936, he married Gladys Gunderson in Belmond. The couple resided in the Belmond area until 1942 when they moved to Britt. Carl was employed at the Iowa Electric Light and Power Company as District Manager for 35 years, retiring in 1971.

Carl was known as a community servant for his constant efforts to improve the community in which he lived. He organized fund raising for the new First Lutheran Church of Britt, and successfully managed the original fund raising drive for the West Hancock Ambulance Service which resulted in the Service today.

Carl constructed and presented to Britt the Christmas nativity scene displayed each year, and was the artist who constructed the World's Largest Bullhead located on the south shore of Crystal Lake.

He was the District Chairman of the Winnebago Council of the Boy Scouts of America, was in charge of the original bond election for the Hancock County Memorial Hospital and served as vice chairman of the Board of Trustees for ten years. He organized the Britt Community Chest and served as chairman for two years, was chairman of the Britt Community School district reorganization, chairman of the school bond election for the new high school, co-chairman of the Hancock County War Bond sales, Financial Chairman for the West Hancock Red Cross, President of Britt Community Services, and past President of the Britt Rotary Club where he was a member for 29 years.

Carl was also a member of the board of the Salvation Army, the Britt Chamber of Commerce, the Britt Industrial Development Corporation, and served on the original board of the Britt Country Club which built the golf course and club house. He was also awarded the American Legion Citation for Meritorious Service.

He is survived by his son, Ford W. Frick of Britt and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys, who died July 28, 1987; an infant son; and two brothers, Ford E. and Lael Marion Frick.
