Howard Cummings Buried At Britt
Howard Cummings, formerly of the Britt vicinity, but a resident of Central Heights, Mason City for the past twelve years, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home Sunday night while making preparation to go to a hospital for surgery. At death he was 74 years, 11 months and 6 days old.
Howard Marshall Cummings was born December 8,1876, at Dubuque, the son of Schyler and Mary Cummings. The family moved to Nebraska in 1878 and in 1895 returned to Iowa and settled near Britt.
Mr. Cummings was married to Susie Boutilier, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boutilier, Sr. The ceremony took place at Garner, October 31, 1905. The couple farmed in this community until 1932 when they moved to Rockwell prior to going to Mason City.
Surviving deceased are his wife at Central Heights; three daughters, Mrs. A. C. (Iva), White, Des Moines; Mrs. Joe (Iona) Bentele and Mrs. Frank (Edna) Holt, both of Mason City. There are four grandchildren, Mary Ann Bentele, Jo Anne, Jimmy and Terry Holt, Mason City; a sister, Mrs. Wm. Yokes, St. Paul, Minn., and a brother, E. H. Cummings, Clear Lake, and other relatives.He was preceded in death by two children, Iris Ida, in 1913, and Richard in 1931, his parents and two sisters.
Funeral services were held a the McAuley and Son funeral home in Mason City at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. L. L. Roggow of the Assembly of God church and the Rev. Elbert Dougherty of the Church of the Open Bible officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery at Britt.
