Corwith Girl Fatally Hurt
Alberta Merriam Dies After Car Fail to Take Turn Near Sexton

Britt, May 9 - An inquest was being held today ion the death of Miss Alberta Merrian, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sol Merriam of Corwith, who died at 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Kossuth hospital in Algona from injuries received in an auto accident. She was hurt when the car she was riding left the highway between Sexton and Wesley.

The girl, who was a graduate of Corwith high school, suffered a fractured skull. Dr. R. L. Evans, Kossuth county coroner, came to the Boughton funeral home where the body was brought to conduct the inquiry.

Attending Wedding Dance

Miss Merriam was in an auto driven by Joe Grandjenett of St. Benedict, returning from a wedding dance held at Sexton, when the accident occurred at an "S" corner between Sexton and Wesley, where the highway crosses the railroad tracks.

Passing another car at this time, Grandjanett failed to make another turn and the car left the highway. Robert Boleonius and Marian Vanteicber picked up the two victims and took them to the hospital Algona.

Auto Badly Damaged

Grandjanett was not seriously injured. Because of the skull fracture and severe lacerations suffered by Miss Merrian, her recovery was at once considered doubtful by physicians.

The auto was badly damaged in the accident. The coroner where this accident occurred has been the scene of several accidents, some others of which have resulted in fatalities.
