Britt - Hancock county authorities Sunday turned over to the state bureau of investigation the death of Calvin Dean Smith, 11, son of Mrs. Emily Smith of Britt, who was found hanged by an electrical light cord in an outhouse Friday at 5:40 p.m.
The boy's body was discovered by his mother after he had last been seen at 3 p.m., playing with some neighbor boys. Dr. L. A. Stoner of Britt was summoned and pronounced the boy dead.
Coroner Kenneth Boughton called an inquest into the death Saturday. The coroner's jury, consisting of Clark Armstrong, Ray Roberts and C. W. Botsford, concluded that there were no circumstances of foul play.
The following witnesses were examined at the inquest: Dr. Stoner, Art Smith, an uncle of the dead boy, Shotwell Higdon, Mrs. Don Meleney, Mrs. Lyle Pearce, Ben Fiske, Irwin Reichert and Cornelius Fiske, one of the boys with whom Calvin was last seen playing.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist church in Britt, with the Rev. F. F. Robinson officiating. There were 6 active and 4 honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.
