E. P. Dow Funeral Was Held Tuesday
E. P. Dow, 88, a resident of Forest City for 38 years, died unexpectedly Saturday while working in his yard. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in The Methodist church with the Rev. O. W. Brand officiating.
Olson funeral home was in charge with burial in Concord cemetery, Garner. Pallbearers were Roy Schram, Harvey Harms, Verner Paulson, Forest Lakore, Floyd Danielson and Clarence Stevenson.
Edwin Parker Dow was born in Montpelier, Vermont, Sept. 18, 1867. He came to Iowa at an early age and lived in Old Concord south of Garner. He and his father had a watch repair and book store in Garner.
He married Etta Achsoh Shafer in 1888 and the couple lived in Rockwell where Mr. Dow had a watch repair shop. In 1889, Mr. Dow and his father-in-law, A. B. Shafer, started the first general store in Klemme.
In 1907 the family moved to Rake where he had a general merchandising store including furniture and undertaking until 1917 when the family moved to Forest City.
Mr. Dow traveled as a salesman by train and sled selling groceries for the Fowler grocery of Waterloo. After being a grocery salesman for 17 years he spent the remainder of his years selling insurance.
He was an active member of The Methodist church serving as trustee, steward and usher for many years. This year he was made an honorary member of the board of trustees of The Methodist church.
At one time he was mayor of Klemme and later councilman in Forest City. In 1938 he became a charter member of the North Iowa Golden Wedding Jubilee club and served as secretary and treasurer until his death.
Mr. Dow was preceded in his death by his son, Abdon, at birth; his wife in 1942 and a son, Elmer, in 1955; also two brothers and a sister.
In 1944 he married Mrs. Minnie McCormick of Britt. She survives as do his two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Bonnie) Brooker and Marguerite of Spencer, a daughter-in-law, Mrs Elmer Dow of Sheffield, a sister, Mrs A. R. Davis of Minneapolis, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three step children, Harold McCormick of Klemme, Maynard McCormick of Spencer and Mrs. John Helen Luke of Cedar Rapids

Rites to Be Held at Forest City for E. P. Dow, 88
Forest City - E. P. Dow, 88, retired insurance man, died Saturday here of a heart attack. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church with Dr. O. W. Brand officiating. Burial will be at Garner.
The Olson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dow had been secretary of the Golden Wedding Club at Forest City since its organization in 1938.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie, and two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Brooker, Forest City, and Marguerite Dow, teacher at Spencer, seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Elmer, Sheffield.
