NEVA F. HARTZELL 1926 – 2000

GARNER - Neva F. Hartzell, 72, of Garner, died Friday (Jan. 28, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Garner with the Rev. Kay Hooper and the Rev. Curtis DeVance officiating. Burial will be held in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with a 3 p.m. Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary service.

Neva F. Hartzell, the daughter of August and Rosa (Bredlow) Kropp, was born Nov. 18, 1926, on a farm southwest of Garner. After attending the rural schools of Liberty Township she graduated from Garner High School in 1944. She attended I.S.T.C. in Cedar Falls and then worked at Bethke Produce in Garner.

On June 12, 1949, she was married to Robert Hartzell at Liberty Methodist Church southwest of Garner. They made their home in Klemme. Neva worked at the ASCS in Garner until she retired. She also worked as a secretary at the United Methodist Church in Klemme and as a hostess at Bennigan's in Clear Lake. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, sports and exercising. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Miriam Circle, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Garner Bowling Association.

She is survived by her son, Rick Hartzell of Cedar Falls and his children, Nate and Amanda; her daughter, Jody East and her husband, Stephen, and their two sons, Jess and Jay, of Garner; five sisters and brothers, Lucille Drugg, of Forest City, Hilda Bell, Orville Kropp, Viola Kropp and her husband, Leon and Lester Kropp, all of Garner; one sister-in-law, Grace Hartzell, of Garner; and a brother-in-law, Dale Hartzell, of Ankeny; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hartzell, Dec. 13, 1972; her parents, August and Rosa Kropp; a sister, Relma Finn; and two brothers, Caris "Barney" Kropp and Gilbert Kropp.
