AGED WAR VETERAN PASSES AWAY

Was in Civil War continuously From Start to Finish and in Many Important Battles

WAS PAST HIS EIGHTIETH YEAR

George W. Black died at his home in Britt on Friday, June 14, 1918, at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 2 days.

George W. Black was born in Huron County, Ohio, February 12, 1837. At an early age he moved with his parents to Jo Davis, County, Illinois. When the first call came for volunteers for the Civil war he responded at once for the period of 90 days. At the end of that time he enlisted for three years and at the end of that time enlisted for the period of the war. His father, three Brothers and one brother-in-law also were volunteers and not one of them were wounded or captured, all coming to their homes again after the war. Mr. Black was in the famous battles of Vicksburg, Gettysburg, Wilson and Chicamaugua.

At the close of the war he was married to Miss Mariah Robinson. To this union three children were born, Harry E., deceased; George R.and Bessie B., both living. This wife died in 1888. In 1900 he was united in marriage to Mary H. Staplin, and since that time Britt has been the family home.

Mr. Black was a kind and loving father and husband, a man thought much of by his friends. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his death, two brothers, one at LuVerne, Minn., and one at Spokane, Wash., and three sisters, all of Mizeppa, Minn.

Funeral services were held Sunday morning, June 16th, at the Congregational church, Rev. E. Dale Calkins reading the funeral services. The G.A R. of which deceased was a member, took an active part In the funeral services. Interment was made In the Evergreen cemetery, of Britt.
