Rites for Tobias Peterson, past resident, held here

Services for Tobias Peterson, 78, a former resident here, were held Tuesday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church, Forest City, with the Rev. Murley Severson of Zion Lutheran church in Clear Lake officiating. Burial was at the Madison cemetery.

Peterson, a Clear Lake resident, died following a stroke Sunday [Jul 1972] afternoon in a Mason City hospital.

He was born March 6, 1894, in Stavanger, Norway. He emigrated to Winnebago county in 1909 and lived here until he entered the Army in World War I. He returned to this area after service in France.

On May 15,1926, he married the former Helen Holland of Mason City, and they moved to Story City, where he was employed as a baker. Peterson worked in bakeries in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota from 1926 until 1953, when he moved to Des Moines and operated a bakery there. He retired and moved to Clear Lake in 1969.

He was a past member of the American Legion in Forest City and Thompson.

Peterson is survived by one son, Donald Peterson of Decorah, and five granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife in January 1968, one brother and one sister.
