Services Held For Mrs. Nelson

Funeral services for Mrs. Leonard Nelson were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. Owen Gangstead officiated.

Orville Persons, soloist was accompanied by Mrs. Joseph Peterson, organist.

Casket bearers were Marvin George, Frank Kamish, Eugene Morris, Alfred Peterson, G. G. Riekena and Russell Schnebly.

Interment was in the Madison township cemetery with the Olson Funeral home in charge.

Mrs. Nelson died Friday [20 Sep 1963] at the Mercy hospital in Mason City after being hospitalized nine days. She was born Edith Halverson, July 3, 1901 in Ellington township in Hancock county and was the daughter of Nettie and A. H. Halvorson.

She attended the Jass school east of Miller and the Miller school. She was baptized and confirmed in the Ellington Prairie Lutheran church east of Miller.

March 2, 1924, she was married to Leonard Nelson at Miller. They made their home at Miller where Mr. Nelson operated a garage and was later employed in the trucking business. Mrs. Nelson instigated the building of the Miller Lutheran church from 1925 to 1926. She helped organize the young people's league at the Miller church and was church organist there 10 years.

in 1950 the family moved to Forest City. Mrs. Nelson was member of the ladies aid and later became a member of the American Lutheran Church Women at the Immanuel Lutheran church.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Betty; two sons, Eldean of Forest City and Robert of Mason City; one brother, Harland Halvorson and one sister, Iona Halvorson, both of Forest City; her mother, Mrs. Nettie Halvorson, and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; twin brothers, and two daughters, Geraldine and Evelyn in infancy.
