In 1925, they moved to Corwith, where Thelma spent her formative years among a close knit extended family. Thelma was valedictorian of the Corwith High School class of 1936. She graduated from
Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) in 1940, where she majored in Home Economics. After graduation from ISC, she taught Home Economics for two years in Lamont, then at Britt, until she married.

of these organizations: United Methodist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary, Farm Bureau Women, the Hancock County Historical Society, the Riverside Club, Eastern Star, Potpourri, Garden Club and the Grandmothers Club.

On May 31, she suffered a stroke from which she never recovered.
