Lucille J. Guth, 85, a long time resident of Klemme, died on Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Hancock Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit in Britt, with her family at her side.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 10, at the Klemme United Methodist Church, Klemme. The Rev. Paddy Druhl officiated. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. The Andrews Funeral Home, Klemme, was in charge of
the arrangements.Lucille Jane Hatch, the daughter of Ray and Jewell (Young) Hatch, was born on May 3, 1922, on her parents' farm at Nemaha, Iowa. She attended the Nemaha Schools and graduated from the Nemaha High School in the Class of 1939. She attended Buena Vista College, where she received her teaching certificate following two years of college. She then went on to teach for a time in the Rhinehardt and Albert City Schools Systems.
Lucille was united in marriage to Everett I. Guth on May 24, 1944, at the Methodist Church in Nemaha. Following their marriage they lived for a time on a farm near Meservey. In 1946, they moved to a farm north of Klemme. Lucille and Everett owned and operated the farm for the next 33 years before retiring from active farming in 1979.
Lucille was a devoted and dedicated wife and partner on the farm. Her greatest joy was providing for the needs of her husband and nurturing and caring for her children. They will cherish the love and relish the life education and
direction that she instilled as a precious gift in each of them.Lucille looked forward to any opportunity to spend time with her children and their families whether it was at a family dinner, gathering, or any other occasion that meant time in their presence. They will remember her hard work
on the farm with Everett and her many other domestic tasks that were completed with her loving hands. Her grandchildren love to reflect back on times when "Grandma" would baby-sit with them.Lucille was a long time devoted member of the Klemme United Methodist Church, where she fulfilled many roles including membership in UMC and teaching Sunday School for more than 15 years and serving on the church memorial fund committee. She was a life member of the WSCS (Women's Society of Christian Service). Her strong faith carried out in all aspects of her life, a trait that all who knew her will verify.
Lucille was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader for many years and a long time member of the Grandmother's Club, where she held various offices. Lucille and Everett enjoyed many years of square dancing. They loved to travel and go
camping. They looked forward to wintering in Mission, Texas for 14 years, the first 12 in a motor home and the last couple in a trailer home. In recent years Lucille enjoyed congregate meals at the 4 Point Center in Klemme and the
friendship and conversation that came with them.Lucille's family will cherish the memories of the aroma of her freshly made home made bars, cookies and pies coming from the kitchen and seeing her yard filled with beautiful daffodils. They will miss her friendly smile, the soft twinkle in her eyes, and the warmth and love which she shared with each of them.
Lucille's memory will be cherished by her surviving daughter, Nancy and husband, David Cartier of Vienna, Virginia and their children, Scott Cartier and wife, Gwen Byard and their children, Gavin and Gareth, all of Mountain
View, California and Kristina Cartier of Herndon, Virginia; Lucille's son, Dennis Guth and wife, Margaret of Klemme and their children, Eric Guth and wife, Ashley (Boyken) of Forest City and Natalie, Anna, Peter and Lillian Guth, all at home in Klemme; and Lucille's daughter, Peggy Talarico and husband, Frank of Omaha, Nebraska and their daughters, Angela and Amy Talarico, of Omaha; Lucille's step-grandsons, Steve Talarico of Canby, Oregon and John Talarico of Mollah, Oregon.Also surviving is her sister, Evelyn Rockufeler of Storm Lake; and sisters-in-law, Marvyl Frink of New Hampton and Amelia Guth of Meservey.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett Guth on July 16, 2006; and her brothers-in-law, Eugene Guth, Everett Frink, Ardell Rooks and Frank Rockufeler.
